Omaha Hi, a game for between 2-10 players, has gained popularity, both in
the US and abroad, due to its fast paced play and relatively simple game rules.
It is a form of Hold’em but with a few important variations.
Omaha is a community card game. Omaha is played the same as Hold'em
with the following two exceptions:
Each player receives four face-down cards (pocket cards) to start.
At the showdown each player must use exactly two of their four pocket cards
and combine them with exactly three boardcards.
Sequence of Game Play:
1. Each player is dealt two cards face-down
(pocket cards)
2. First betting round
3. Dealer turns over three community boardcards
(the flop) face-up
4. Second betting round
5. Dealer turns over 1 more community boardcard
(the turn)
6. Third betting round
7. Dealer turns over 1 final community boardcard
(the river)
8. Final betting round
9. Showdown
At the showdown players MUST use exactly two of their pocket
cards and three boardcards.
Please check Roberts Rules
Of Poker for a more complete discussion of the rules and for any irregularities
from the above.
Omaha 8 or better is a game of Flushes. When playing hands stay away from “naked” A-2
combinations that have no back-up low. Always look for hands where the Ace is
suited.
