Note on Bonuses: Keep in mind that bonuses can be tough to compare because cardrooms offer different types of deals. For example, some cardrooms may offer something like "$30 free on $30 deposit," and others may say "25% free on deposit up to maximum of $50." If you plan to deposit $200, you'd be better off in the second example, but if you plan to deposit less, you might be better off in the first case. In any event, think of the bonus as just one piece of your total decision. Also consider other important elements like playing experience, number of active games, and betting limits. Also remember that in order to be able to withdraw the bonus you need to play a number of raked hands that equals at least five times the bonus amount (this is a common online cardroom practice aimed at preventing players from signing up and immediately withdrawing bonuses).

Empire Poker

Empire Poker is a different brand name that was created when Party Poker partnered with another company to launch a poker room under a new name. When you sign up at Empire Poker, you're essentially signing up for Party Poker, and vice versa. You will play at all the same tables against players who signed up at both Empire Poker and Party Poker. Empire Poker is run by a different company and as the PokerMD says below, being a "skin" of Party Poker, Empire has all of the action, but with more "perks" for this reason it’s one of our favorite sites.

Bonus: First time Depositor 20% of deposit to a maximum bonus of $100. Therefore, you max out the bonus if you deposit $500. (Empire Poker offers one of the biggest bonuses in online poker.)

Loyalty Program: Empire Poker does not currently run a Loyalty Program.

PokerMD Review: This site is a skin of Party so the software issues are the same. Their management is different so you may get better level-3 customer support. Their tournaments are sometimes an overlay as their player base grows. Take advantage of this now before there’s no longer an overlay.

They run their own separate promotions from Party and some of these are to be rivaled in the industry. They also have a live support feature and the deposit options are the same. This site now has a Poker School and special incentives for high limit (VIP) players.

Empire is great at developing promotions that players want now, like tournaments that award seats into the WSOP!

Party Poker

Unquestionably the largest and most popular poker room with over 35,000 registered players. With savvy marketing, a solid playing experience, constant tournament action, and excellent customer service, Party Poker has earned its reputation as one of the top online poker rooms.

Bonus: First time Depositor 20% of deposit to a maximum bonus of $100.

Loyalty Program: Party Poker does not currently run a Loyalty Program.

* Party Poker is a charter member for the World Poker Tour.

PokerMD Review: Party has the greatest number of players by far and for it’s size you would think they have the best software. This is not at all true. That being said it’s still the best site to play on for live play, variety and worst players, and tournaments for their size. They have multiple ways to deposit including their own service and run great promotions.

Their customer service is lacking but they do have an online live support feature that may come in handy. Unfortunately you may have to use this service all too often.

Great promotion in the Party Poker Million, a once a year cruise to the island of a million bucks!

Poker Stars

Pokerstars is very well known for their great tournament software and it’s player friendly interface. In fact with their picture option you can enter your own face! If you like tournaments than you MUST sign up at Poker Stars.

Poker Stars has received a lot of notoriety when one of their on-line players, Chris Moneymaker, won satellite tournaments at Poker Stars to qualify for a seat at the World Series Of Poker. He won both the title and the $2,500,000.

* Poker Stars now sponsors its own World Poker Tour Event.

Bonus: Poker Room offers a deposit bonus of 20%, up to a total of $100. However, in order to collect your bonus, you must earn 10 player points per dollar of bonus. For example, to collect $20 of your bonus, you must first earn 200 player points. Please read about the Loyality Program (Below) on how the points are accumulated.

Loyalty Program: Players accumulate points by playing in raked ring games, in multi-table tournaments, and in sit & go tournaments that include a tournament fee. One (1) point is awarded for playing in each raked game when the rake reaches:

$0.50 for fixed limit games with stakes $0.50/$1.00 and lower
$0.75 for fixed limit games with stakes $1.00/$2.00
$1.00 for pot limit games, no limit games, and fixed limit games with stakes $2/$4 and higher

Five (5) points are awarded for each $1 in a tournament fee (rounded up) - for example, in a tournament with $20 buy-in and $2 tournament fee, each player will be awarded 10 FPPs. Another example is a $5 buy-in Sit & Go tournament with $0.50 fee - 3 FPP will be awarded to each player in this tournament.

These points are redeemable for special tournament buy-ins, promotions, as well as various other prizes which will be announced from time to time.

PokerMD Review: This is by far the best tournament software in the industry and home of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). The 11 events this year had a total prize pool of over 2.7 million.

Their live action is nowhere near the competition as a whole, but I really like the NL and PL games. This site also has the best customer support in the industry. E/mails are returned in what seems like minutes sometimes. Most outcomes are fairer than expected.

This is a site to be trusted. They just joined the WPT and held their first event on a boat in the Caribbean. It was a great success and will be repeated.

UltimateBet

Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke and many other official Pros play here "officially" and many others "unofficially". They have a $5/$10 No Limit and a $25/$50 No Limit. The big game is watched by many and played by most of the pro's online.

Bonus: As well as offering a 20% Match Bonus for new players, UltimateBet also have regular freerolls, High Hand Jackpots, and frequent player tourneys and prizes.

Loyality Program: UltimateBet has the Ultimate Players Club. In our opnion one of the best loyality programs available today. You are able to redeem your points for trips to Las Vegas and to Tahiti. Freerolls, poker books and even a genuine Harley-Davidson FatBoy™. You earn UltimatePoints for every minute of real money play, every raked hand, bonus ponits on real money tournaments and for starting real money games.

* Ultimate Bet is a charter member of the World Poker Tour.

PokerMD Review: UltimateBet has one of my favorite features on the Internet. their mini-view allows you to play at four (4) tables at a time without a window ever covering the other. As long as your playing Hold em, this is a great feature. This site also has Triple Draw Lowball in both the A-5 versions and the 2-7 (Kansas City Lowball) as well. Their tool bar version of the pre-set and betting buttons are among the most user friendly in the industry. Play with newbie’s, Pro’s and Me on this site.

Pacific Poker

Pacific Poker has a wide range of betting limits to accommodate low and high-stakes players, a great reputation for reliability, a top-notch playing experience, and some great technical features, including a no-download playing option.

Bonus: First time depositor 25% up to $50. Therefore, you can max out the bonus by depositing $200 in your account.

Loyalty Program: Pacific Poker offers a simple but nice loyalty program called the Player's Club. Whenever you play, you'll earn points for each real money hand. Every $10 you bet becomes 1 bonus point, and every 100 bonus points can be converted into $1 of real cash for your account. Doing the math, then, for every $1000 you bet, you get an extra $1 in your account. So, nothing to get too excited about, but keep in mind that a casino's poker rake isn't that high, so the loyalty-to-cash perks they can offer for poker aren't as high as for other games.

PokerMD Review: This is a great site for beginners and those who want to play with beginners. It’s not heavily attended and the games go a bit slow, but if your looking to play with the “new to the game crowd”, this is the site for you. This site is owned by 888 or better known as Casino-on-net, the biggest online gaming company out there so reliability and integrity are never in question. They offer all games and tournament, but all in the LIMIT versions only.
